I am contacting you to tell you about the work of the Leo Puente Memorial Fund.

The friends and family of Leo Puente are pleased that after much hard work, we have established this scholarship fund in memory of Mr. Puente, a dedicated educator, social worker and coach. His biggest achievement was his lifetime commitment to improve the education of our inner-city youth.

The fund's annual baseball benefit takes place at Riverfront Stadium in Newark, New Jersey – the home of the minor league baseball team The Newark Bears.

The fund has enjoyed support from news anchor Connie Chung, Spanish talk show host Cristina Saralegui, Bill Ritter of ABC News, and former NY Yankee Rick Cerone. Hundreds of Newark students attend each benefit game for free, thanks to our sponsors which include Disney, ABC Inc. and Major League Baseball.

In keeping with Leo's passion for helping our young people, this fund awards an annual $3000 in scholarships to Newark public high school students going on to college.

The Community Fund of New Jersey, a non-profit organization, was chosen to administer the fund.
